Prague Impressions

Prague Impressions, Volume 1
by Paul Pacey, 2008 - 2011
Prague Impressions is a collection of 50 images by Canadian photographer, Paul Pacey, taken within the Czech Republic in defiance of today’s highly driven modern-art. Invoking visual references to Monet and his band, the work is clearly nostalgic in nature and meant more to meditate upon than figure out.
“In developing this style I had to first unlearn everything. Stripped of history, ego, and rules, I started to wonder, what if Photography had it wrong from the very start? What if real magic is in what the eye can not see? And that the camera is best served as a conduit from reality to fantasy?” asks Paul, who believes this emerging style will eventually define him.

“I can’t be so naive to think I’m the only one out there shooting like this. But if you think about it, everyone can envision at least one fashion photographer, one documentary photographer, one landscape photographer... but name me one impressionist photographer. Within the next 5 to 10 years I believe there is a historical genre being born that has still not been defined yet. I just wonder what’s taken us/me so long to get here.”
